The National Talent Search Examinations (NTSE) is conducted every year by the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) for all the Class 10th passed students as a reward of scholarship to all the meritorious and deserving applicants as specified by the UGC Norms for this purpose. The candidates qualifying the exam shall be awarded scholarships of Rs 1250 per month in case of Class XI to XII standard and Rs 2000 per month in case of Under Graduate and Post Graduate Students respectively. The exam is held every year in the May/ June months for all the eligible students only.

The exam is held in two stages where the stage I constitutes the written exam to be conducted by States and Union Territories and stage II to be conducted by NCERT. The last NTSE was conducted on 1st & 2nd November 2014 (Mizoram, Meghalaya, Nagaland & Andaman & Nicobar Islands and in all other state and union territories) and 10th May 2014 respectively. The stage I exam consists of two main parts namely: MAT (Mental Ability Test) and SAT (Scholastic Aptitude Test) respectively. The NCERT has scheduled its second stage examination to be held on 19th October 2014 for all the candidates.
